That said, for the many that may have tried to make mead and suffered some form of a misstep, this drink can also seem like a frustrating mix to get right.
Here is a one gallon maple mead recipe fermented with orange and spices! This elderflower sparkling mead is perfect to make in the summertime when elderflowers are abundant. It is a sparkling mead that uses less honey so therefore has a slightly lower alcohol content than most of my other mead recipes.
The earliest evidence for the production of mead goes all the way back to 7,000 BC China, where archaeologists found traces of a fermented honey, rice and fruit beverage through the chemical analysis of pottery.
Ingredients: 1 3 lbs clover honey. 2 1 large orange. 3 Handful of raisins (about 25) 4 1 cinnamon stick. 5 1 clove. 6 Small pinch of nutmeg and allspice. 7 1 teaspoon or 1 packet of (brand new) Fleishmann’s bread yeast. 8 Water to bring it up to a gallon at the end.
