They rejiggered the formula to create the 96-calorie Miller Lite, introduced nationwide in 1975. It became a breakaway hit that tasted great and was less filling.

Lager beer uses a process of cool fermentation, followed by maturation in cold storage. The German word "Lager" means storeroom or warehouse. The yeast generally used with lager brewing is Saccharomyces pastorianus. It is a close relative of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast used for warm fermented ales.
And in British terms ale and beer are the same thing. The diference between lager and ale is lager is fermented at a colder temperature and is aged before serving.
The real difference is that usually wheat beers are ale beers, hence, have all the ale profile: usually more esters and phenols. You can brew a wheat beer with lager yeast and you have a beer where there is no difference between them (taking in account your question).
Lager is a type of beer conditioned at low temperatures. The term may also be used as a verb to describe the cold-conditioning process. Lagers can be pale, amber, or dark. Pale lager is the most widely consumed and commercially available style of beer.
