1. Measure the lye and water in separate containers, using a digital scale. Combine the lye and water by adding the lye to the water, then stir until dissolved. The lye solution will shoot up in temperature and become hot. Set aside to cool in a safe place.
2. Measure the castor oil and coconut oil using a digital scale. Melt over low heat in a stainless steel pot until fully melted and 140 degrees. Set aside to cool in a safe place.
3. When the lye water and melted oils have cooled to about 110 degrees, combine them by pouring the lye water into the melted oils. Blend with a stick blender until a thin trace is reached. (The mixture will thicken slightly and no droplets of oil are visible.) Add the fragrance, if using, and stir in by hand.
4. Immediately pour into a soap mold with individual bars. (The soap dries too hard to cut easily if made as a loaf.). Remove from the molds after 24 hours and allow to cure 2 weeks more before using. Store the bar in a place that will allow it to dry as much as possible between uses.

1. Prepare your workstation with your tools and equipment. Put on rubber gloves, eye protection, and an apron. Carefully pre-measure the ingredients. The oil and wax into the pan, and the lye, 2x distilled water amounts, and citric acid into each of the four jugs.
2. Prepare the ramekins by washing and drying them thoroughly and setting them on a sheet of greaseproof paper. The ones I'm using came from a supermarket dessert pack and are 3¼" in diameter. At that size, you'll be able to perfectly fill four ramekins. If your ramekins are smaller, prepare a few extra and I imagine you can get six, or possibly more dish soaps. You can also pour the soap into ordinary molds but the soap hardens very quickly so I'd advise silicone cavity molds. If you use a loaf mold and cut the soap after two hours (or so) of making it, then it will crack and break as it's very brittle.
3. Next, dissolve the lye (sodium hydroxide) crystals in water designated for the lye solution. In an airy place, outdoors is best, pour the lye crystals into the water and stir well. There will be a lot of heat and steam so be careful. Try not to breathe it in. Leave outside in a safe place, or in a shallow basin of water to cool.
4. While the lye solution is cooling, make the citric acid solution. Pour the citric acid into the water set aside for it. Swirl and stir until the citric acid is fully dissolved. This can take up to a minute as the water will be room temperature.

1. Place the water in a heatproof containter. Wearing protective gloves and eyewear, slowly sits the lye into the water until fully dissolved. (always add lye to water, not the other way around). Set aside until the temp drops to 100-110 F (38-43C)
2. While the lye is cooling, combine the coconut and castor oil. Warm until coconut oil is melted. My soap making container is the pot I melt the oils in, but if you’re using something else, pour it into your soap making bowl and add a thermometer. You want the oil and the lye solution to be within 10F of each other.
3. When the temps are correct, blend in the citric acid, and lemon peel powder in oil to the coconut oil mixture and blend well with immersion blender. Now it’s time to add the lye solution. Mix with the immersion blender until you reach a very light trace. Now blend in the essential oils.
4. Because of the high coconut oil content it will set up quickly so be sure to keep the trace light. Pour the soap into the molds of your choice and use a spatula to smooth. Allow the dish soap bars to so set up overnight and then remove from molds. Allow to cure for at least 3-4 weeks.
