ANGOSTURA LAUNCHES LATEST INNOVATION-COCOA BITTERS. Port of Spain, Trinidad. July 29th, 2020: Angostura, world renowned for aromatic bitters, has added yet another flavour to its portfolio with the latest innovation- ANGOSTURA® cocoa bitters. It’s made using Trinidad and Tobago’s own Trinitario cocoa which is a unique and untapped resource.
Angostura bitters are a key ingredient in many cocktails, originally used to mask the flavour of quinine, which is extremely bitter, in tonic water along with gin, this mix stuck in the form of a Pink Gin, and is also used in many other cocktails such as Long vodka, a cocktail consisting of vodka, angostura, and lemonade.
The bitters were first produced in the town of Angostura (now Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela), hence the name, but do not contain angostura bark. The bottle is recognisable by its distinctive oversized label. 'Angostura' is Spanish for 'narrowing', the town of Angostura having been located at the first narrowing of the Orinoco River.
Angostura bitters is a concentrated bitters, or botanically infused alcoholic mixture, made of water, 44.7% alcohol, herbs and spices,by House of Angostura in Trinidad and Tobago. It is typically used for flavouring beverages or (less often) food.
