Hello Kae La,

Morning nausea will present itself upon awakening, or it will wake you out of your sleep with a feeling of uneasiness in your stomach. Sometimes nausea will bring about vomiting, but this is not always the case. There are many health conditions that show morning nausea as one of their symptoms. Nausea is something that happens involuntarily, and it is an action regulated by the central nervous system. During the early months of pregnancy, more than 50 percent of women feel nauseous in the morning.

Pregnancy
Aside from missed periods, another common symptom of pregnancy is nausea in the morning hours, or “morning sickness”. Morning nausea while pregnant often occurs when the body produces more hormones during the first few months after conception.

Morning nausea often occurs in chemotherapy or radiation therapy patients and is more prevalent if the patient is a woman, is under the age of 50, has had motion sickness in the past, is constipated, has an imbalance of fluids in the body, is suffering from anxiety, or has kidney disease. Nausea can begin 24 hours following chemotherapy or anytime before the 24 hours. Sometimes nausea occurs after 24 hours.

Concussion
Sometimes when a person suffers a brain injury such as a concussion they may show signs of nausea. Another symptom of a concussion can be a headache, which can also cause nausea, says the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. A concussion can result when the head is hit with a hard object. Sometimes a concussion manifests as a result of a car accident or sports injury.

Headaches
Headaches are common with adults and can be mild or severe. A headache can come and go and return, and a headache can linger for a week or more. A headache can occur without the involvement of any underlying health condition, or a headache can occur due to an elevation in temperature, an infection, high blood pressure or some other health disorder. Nausea is just one symptom of a headache, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Food Poisoning
Salmonella will have a direct effect on the intestinal tract. Since a symptom of nausea, which is common with food poisoning, can occur anytime after eating contaminated food, nausea can occur during the morning hours.

Acute Diarrhea
A severe case of diarrhea is often caused by an infection or a reaction to certain medications. Although the primary symptom of acute diarrhea is frequent elimination of watery fecal matter, nausea is often another symptom, reports the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse.

Gallstones
Gallstones are little stone-like formations that appear in the gallbladder and create pain and sometimes a blockage in the bile ducts. According to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, morning nausea is one of the symptoms of gallstones.
